2001 Database Scalability Program
TopTen Winners
The 2001 Database Scalability Program identified 138 TopTen award winners, including Grand Prize winners.
The program comprised 15 database categories and used specific metrics for assessment.
Program Metrics
The Database Scalability Program used three metrics to assess 'largest database:'
1) Most data (includes user data, summaries, aggregates and indexes, and excludes
freespace and redundancy).
2) Most rows, records or objects
3) Highest peak workload activity:
- For OLTP systems, the highest number of transactions per second
- For DSS systems, the highest number of concurrent, in-flight queries
The program separated transaction processing systems from decision support systems. Some award
categories included databases on any platform, whereas others tracked only Unix or only Windows NT/2000 systems.
