Winter Corporation Announces the 1998
VLDB Survey Program Winners

Winter Corporation is pleased to announce the winners of the 1998 VLDB Survey Program, an annual campaign that identifies the world's largest databases. The program recognizes outstanding achievement in three database areas: most data, most rows or records, and peak online activity. The 1998 program recognized 107 "Top Ten" winners, including 17 Grand Prize winners. Click the icon "1998 Top Ten Winners" to view all the winners of the 1998 program. You can read the press release that announces the Grand Prize (first place) winners and describes their accomplishments by clicking the icon, "1998 World's Largest Databases". See how much VLDBs have grown since last year by comparing the 1997 Top Ten Winners to this year's leaders.

The VLDB Survey Program, a core component of the Winter Research and Recognition Program, reports on the usage, trends and practices of VLDB technology and associated products. The goal of the program is to assist VLDB practitioners in maximizing the business value of your large databases. In today’s global marketplace, a first-rate VLDB just might provide the edge that transforms a competitor into an industry leader.   Click here for the World's Largest Databases identified by Winter Corporation

There are numerous reasons to participate in the VLDB Survey Program. To begin with, this unique campaign allows you to create valuable market recognition and professional visibility for yourself, your database team and your entire organization. Through the program, you can earn a variety of incentive awards, promotional gifts and company honors. These prizes range from lighthearted gifts, such as chocolate terabyte RAID configurations and frequent flyer miles, to complimentary on-site technology briefings and a copy of the Members Report, a compilation of selected data and research results based on the 1998 findings. Overall, there were 107 "Top Ten" winners in the 1998 program, representing 12 different categories of VLDBs. Click here for the Top Ten Winners in the VLDB Survey Program

Now entering its fifth year, the VLDB Survey Program has attained world class status, with current participants representing a broad cross-section of large and successful companies. As in the past, the 1998 program was conducted in partnership with Database Programming & Design magazine. All survey responses were tabulated and analyzed in early 1998 and the results were presented by Richard Winter, president of Winter Corporation, at the VLDB Summit in Los Angeles, March 4-7, 1998. In addition, the winners’ names, company information, category of excellence and selected research findings were the subject of a feature article in the August 1998 issue of Database Programming and Design magazine.

The 2002 VLDB Survey Program begins in July 2001. Be sure to visit this site again in the summer to obtain a survey. Earn both professional and personal rewards and learn if your VLDB is among the world's largest databases.
